SHOE DIARY ADVENTURES
PLACES
Shoes take us to many places, and I don’t know that they’ve ever gotten the recognition they deserve. As a photographer, I’ve noticed that my feet help to take me to peculiar locations, meet amazing people, and have epic adventures. Over the past six months, I’ve taken note and documented the differences in my shoes (or lack of) and the earth around them, based on the adventure-shoot project I am conducting. So this is my ode to the soles that help me enrich my soul, and my favorite accompanying images from that particular shoot.
AUSTIN, TEXAS Late May I flew to Texas to visit my parents and my friends for a week. Texas is already very hot at this time of the year, so we took to a famous-favorite Austin swimming hole, Barton Springs, for a dip. After a swim, we rented a canoe there and toured through downtown Austin on a part of the Colorado River known as "Town Lake".
BAJA CALIFORNIA, MEXICO. My girlfriends and I road tripped to Mexico from Salt Lake City, Utah to camp ocean side and shoot for several projects. Street dogs and cats are commonly seen in Mexico. Katie Boué enjoyed the warm Mexican air.
ENSENADA, MEXICO Early morning light is prime time for shooting photos. This breezy morning in Mexico took us to the beach to do a shoot for Rumpl. We laughed and ran around trying to warm, because it was still a bit chilly in early February. My lovely friends graciously agreed to be my models.
MEADOW HOT SPRINGS, UTAH We hit the road around 10pm from Park City, Utah to camp three hours south at the Meadow Hot Springs. Our goal was to spend sunrise in the hot pots. Waking up before the sun and in the cold was not easy. I wrapped myself in my Rumpl as I shot sunrise, then I went for a dip in the warm waters.
MOAB, UTAH Early May took us to Moab, before the desert got too hot. We found ourselves down a long dirt road, camping on the canyon rim of the renowned Fruit Bowl. It is a well known spot for highliners to slackline. We shot professional slackliners the next morning walking lines over the 450 foot canyon. PISMO BEACH, CALIFORNIA The first week of April, I took a solo road trip to Central Coast California. My dog Boy and I camped near the beach a few nights. This morning, Boy and I walked out to a coastal bluff and made coffee while watching and listening to the birds overhead and the waves breaking in front of us.
SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH A local hip-hop artist, Shanghaii, and I went to the rail yards this winter to snag some photos for his upcoming song releases.
SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH I shoot urban and park snowboarding during the winter. The crew and I scout a place that looks fun and we build the jumps. They hit them many times over a few hours and I shoot. One of my favorite images from the season. These guys are bosses. This photo is of local snowboarder Mark Pairitz.
LAKE TAHOE, NEVADA
Mid-June I road tripped to visit friends and shoot video and photo for some stories I was putting together. After almost crashing my drone into the lake, I decided to put the underwater housing on my Sony A7rII and shoot some fun shots from the crystal blue waters. In this photo, my friend Amie is getting splashed by a nearby rock jumper.
BONNEVILLE SALT FLATS, UTAH
Ooooh the Salt Flats. This particular one-night trip to the Salt Flats became more of an adventure than we originally bargained. Within 30 minutes of being there, we got my friend’s van stuck in the still wet salt and could only remove it by tow-truck. We made the most of it and continued shooting what we needed. We were grateful we had snacks so we didn’t get hangry while waiting on the tow truck.
